SHERMAN JEWELRY NOW AVAILABLE from VIANVI at RUBY PLAZA
With our second online VIANVI shop now located at RUBY PLAZA, we've been giving some thought as to what jewelry should be listed there and in our SHOP AT RUBY LANE. Since we opened at RUBY LANE back in 2008, we've noticed most visitors to that shop are interested in fine jewelry (diamond and gemstone rings, necklaces, bracelets etc) or antique and art deco jewelry. In fact, of late, just about no-one has come looking for any of our designer vintage costume jewelry, be it Sherman or Schiaparelli!
So, for the immediate future, we are moving most of our costume jewelry sets, including all our SHERMANS, like that gorgeous emerald green sautoir or tassel set shown above into our SHOP AT RUBY PLAZA. Right now, we don't have a huge collection of Sherman any longer, but there are still some lovely pieces to be had, and as we've said before, we are receptive to offers. The topaz parure

But it's not just our SHERMANS that we've moved to our RUBY PLAZA SHOP.
We've taken over our Schiaparellis, Coro, Sarah Coventry, Kramer, Juliana, Hagler ... in fact, any costume jewelry we have, both vintage and new, will now be located at VIANVI at RUBY PLAZA. Just look at this latest addition below:
Isn't that one of the most exquisite vintage designer signed cuff bracelets you've ever seen?! I'm crazy about this one. I'm selling it on consignment for one of my regular customers at RUBY LANE. Does all this mean that we won't have any more designer costume jewelry in OUR SHOP AT RUBY LANE? No. In fact, it's most likely that whenever we list a new piece (except perhaps for Sherman), we'll list it in both shops for a while. But the point of this blog, as it is dedicated to Sherman jewelry, is to let all of you who follow it, or who may be looking for jewelry by Gustave Sherman, know where you can find it! SURE SIGNS CHRISTMAS IS CLOSE: SHERMANS BACK ON EBAY!
Well if you look at the current eBay listings for Sherman, it looks like the market was just taking a break. Today, as I write this, there are 5 pages of Shermans listed on eBay ... and some lovely pieces too. But prices are all over the place! Most of the vendors are still selling their Sherman using auction format. For the buyers, that means a good chance to pick up Sherman at a bargain price. Others have opted for the "Buy it Now" option that has taken over much of eBay and that means the buyer needs to be on top of their game as to whether the Buy it Now price is reasonable or not. I'm not even going to indicate my feelings one way or another on that as I don't consider myself an expert on Sherman. I just know that what a seller could get for a Sherman a year or two back seems to be a lot less than what they can get today. But, if the interest is there and starting to grow again, then Sherman prices could just skyrocket again.
Anyway, here's some of the pieces I saw and liked. When I say "liked", I'm not talking price; I'm talking the beauty or desirability of Sherman from a collector's viewpoint.
The beautiful fuschia brooch above is a signed Sherman and the auction ends on November 18, 2010. Currently there are only 2 bids but it has 6 days to run. Bidding at this time is at $76. This colour is a popular shade in costume jewelry, and being a Sherman, highly desirable. You'll find it HERE.
You probably know that full sets of Sherman are hard to come by and always worth getting, especially if they also come in the original box. That's what makes the set below a good investment. It's fun looking at Sherman again after so much time of not looking at it. Seeing all the lovely offerings reminds me of what I so love in Sherman jewelry: gorgeious designs, lovely colors, collectible value. I don't have much Sherman left but I recently sold a couple too. So obviously interest has picked up again.
Above is a pretty set I still have left in both our VIANVI SHOPS. It's clear Swarovski crystals and a full 3-piece parure. In top condition, it glitters like diamonds and we've priced it to sell in our CHRISTMAS BAZAAR SALE. Slip over to either of our shops to check it out now.

Well I could go on and on but this is a busy time of year for us all. Like I said earlier, there's 6 pages of listings for Sherman on Ebay.ca right now so it that's your thing, go and check them out. On the left is one of my "pets" when it comes to vintage crystals by any designer: this brooch and earring set by Sherman has those rare faux alexandrite stones ... the ones that change from purple to blue/green depending on the light shining on them. This particular set is being offered by a fellow I met a while back at the Christies Antique Show. He's based in Quebec. Very nice seller. You've still got 3 days to bid on this set. Bids are currently only at $23.50, but again there's no way that's where it'll end. If you click on the link I've provided, you can see this set under different lighting where the large stones become purple/violet and the smaller stones around it are all blue. Just love how that color changes. Ever fascinating.
And then there are the BINS .. the "Buy it Now" offerings like the one shown on the right. What a spectacular set and color! The seller describes the color as aquamarine (and if you follow my Vintage jewelry blog you know how I love aquamarine ... especially the real gemstone!) It appears to be in fabulous condition and is certainly a desirable addition to any Sherman collection. Both pieces are signed too. But will she get her price of $1200? And now, here's the cream of the crop, the most collectible of the lot. Even though it may have had alterations, the multi-colored parure, (a book piece) shown below is THE Sherman to buy, and going by the intense bidding so far, others feel likewise:

The one I'd be most interested in is the one on the left. What an incredible design! I've never seen a Sherman like this anywhere, not even in a book. My first thought was "is it signed?" Well, according to the seller, "Sillyboy97", it is. It's a pity the exposure in the picture is so poor. It's really hard to see the actual colors. SillyBoy says it's light & hot pink aurora borealis and in near mint condition. I love this one!
While you're looking at that one, you may as well click on Sillyboy97's other listings. He (or she?) has a ton of Shermans for sale. Apparently he got these at the private estate sale of someone who worked in the jewelry industry for 40 years and all the jewelry has been well-maintained. There's several crystal bead necklaces, some in sautoir style (my favorites) and a wide cuff bracelet with the original tag attached. Gosh, I wish I could afford it: I'd buy the whole collection and get back into selling Sherman. So beautiful!
SHERMAN COLLECTORS! VISIT eBay NOW!
Okay, you know I'm not the biggest eBay fan but right now, if I hadn't decided a while back to get out of costume jewelry, I'd be all over the selection of Shermans being offered on eBay! There's some simply amazing sets, brooches and even cuff bracelets up for grabs. One of my readers alerted me to them. She said there were 14 pages of Shermans for sale on eBay. Well I zipped right over and guess what? That 14 pages was already down to 6 pages. Sherman's selling like hotcakes ... well at least those being sent to auction are. Don't know about the BIN's (ie. Buy it Now) but if you're a collector or just love Sherman, there's sure plenty to choose from and some of it quite extraordinary ie.. designs I've never seen! I'm going to tell you about a few that jumped out at me.
It'll probably be too late for you to bid on the one shown on the top left by the time you read this (unless you're a follower of this blog) as it ends at (9:29 EST, December 5), ten hours away and right now bids are at $621.96. I project it'll go for quite a bit more: it's a 3-piece parure in one of Sherman's most popular colors: fuschia. Lovely design and Sherman bracelets are always an in-demand item. Necklace is unsigned, but is an obvious match to bracelet and earrings. Beauty!
